Paul A. Merkley, FRSC is an emeritus professor of musicology at the University of Ottawa, and he is now located in the GTA. He reviews concerts for torontoconcertreviews.ca, teaches part time, holds concerts, performs on the piano with duo partners, and has a production in development. He specialises in early music and music for film. His most recent book is  Music and Patronage in the Court of René d’Anjou: Sacred and Secular Music in the Literary Program and Ceremonial (Tempe Arizona: Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, 2017).  He is a recipient of ASCAP's Deems Taylor Award for the best article of the year in the category of concert music, this for the research he published on the score for 2001: A Space Odyssey.
